Japan: slow cities and a ryokan
Tokyo, a ryokan in the hills, and Kyoto with mornings left open.

Japan · Couples and honeymoons
Ryokan nights, short transfers, and days that stay open.
Japan is built from the place, not a fixed departure. Tables are booked. Mornings stay empty enough that the trip still feels found.
Two cities and a ryokan in the hills between them is the right shape. The ryokan nights are the heart of it.
Tokyo and Kyoto are the anchors, with a ryokan in the hills or by the sea between them: Hakone, the Kiso Valley, the Izu peninsula, or the Japan Alps. Kanazawa and Naoshima add craft and contemporary art. Kyushu and Hokkaido suit second visits and specific seasons.
The trains carry the trip and the luggage goes ahead. A guide for two or three days unlocks the temples, markets and neighbourhoods; the rest is yours. Dinners alternate between kaiseki at the ryokan and the small counter restaurants that make Japan's cities. Private onsen baths, early-morning temple visits and a day with no plan are built in.
Couples on a honeymoon or a milestone trip, and anyone who travels for food, design and quiet. Late March to early April for cherry blossom and late October to November for autumn colour are the most beautiful and the most competitive; May and October are the easy alternatives.
