Rwanda: gorillas and the lake
Two treks, one lake, six nights.

Rwanda · Couples and honeymoons
Gorilla trekking from a lodge in the Virungas, then quiet days on Lake Kivu.
Rwanda for two is a journey built around a single hour: the one you spend with a gorilla family in the forest. Around it we build a lodge with a view of the volcanoes, a few days on the lake and, if you want it, a safari in Akagera.
Tell us the month and whether you want one trek or two. Permits are limited and are the first thing we secure.
A lodge near Volcanoes National Park for two or three nights and one or two treks, then two or three nights on Lake Kivu for walks, kayaking and the quiet. Nyungwe for chimpanzees or Akagera for a classic safari extend the trip.
Trek mornings start early and last from one to six hours; afternoons are for the fire and the view. Kigali is a night at either end with a guide for the memorial and the city. A private driver throughout; the roads are good and the distances short.
Honeymoons and anniversaries for couples who want something singular. June to September and December to February are driest; the forest is beautiful in any month, and the gorillas do not mind the rain.
Example journeys

Where to stay

On the edge of the park, a short drive from the trek.
Good to know
Park rules set a distance of several metres, but the gorillas set their own. An hour with a family is as close as most people will ever be to a wild animal.
