Sri Lanka family holiday

Ancient cities, tea hills by train, leopard, and a long beach to finish.

Sri Lanka suits families who get restless by day three of a pool. The triangle, the hill train, a safari for leopard, and the coast last.

A private driver-guide stays with you throughout and the distances are short.

Where we go

The cultural triangle for ancient cities and rock fortresses, the tea country by train, a national park for leopard and elephant, and the beaches of the south or the east to finish. The loop is compact and the country changes completely every two hours by road.

How the week runs

A private driver-guide for the whole trip, with specialist guides at the sites. Short drives, a pool at every stop, and days with a single highlight: climbing Sigiriya early, a safari at Yala or Wilpattu, a tea factory, a train ride through the hills. A week of touring and a week on the beach is the classic shape.

Who it suits and when

Families with children from about six who can enjoy a drive, a ruin and a game drive in turn. December to April for the south and west coasts; May to September for the east, and the route runs the other way.

Best time
December to April for the south and west coasts and the hills. May to September for the east coast.
Suits
Families with children of mixed ages · Grandparents travelling with the whole family · First long-haul trips with young children
