Sri Lanka private journeys
Ancient cities, tea country, a leopard safari and the coast in a fortnight, with a private driver throughout.
Sri Lanka in two weeks is a complete journey: ruins older than most of Europe's, tea estates in the clouds, leopard in the dry-zone parks and a coast with a season on one side or the other all year. A private driver makes it simple.
Tell us the month and how long you have. Twelve to fourteen nights is right for the full island.
Where we go
The cultural triangle for Sigiriya, Dambulla and Polonnaruwa; Kandy for the temple; the hill country for tea and walks; Yala or Wilpattu for leopard; Galle for the fort; and the south or east coast for the beach, depending on the season.
How the week runs
Legs are kept under three hours, with the hill-country train for the scenic stretch and a helicopter where it saves a day. Guides join for the ruins and the park; the driver stays with you throughout. Beach days are unplanned.
Who it suits and when
Couples, friends and families with older children. December to March for the south and west; May to September for the east coast and the cultural triangle.
- Best time
- December to April for the south and west coasts and the hills. May to September for the east coast.
- Suits
- Travellers who want a guide rather than a group · Culture-led trips with time for food and walking · Return visitors who have done the obvious route
