Sri Lanka villas
A staffed villa on the south coast with a pool, a cook and the sea at the end of the garden.
Sri Lanka's south coast has some of the best-value staffed villas anywhere: colonial houses and modern beach houses with a cook, a pool and a garden that runs to the sand. A week in one is the easiest way to see the island slowly.
Tell us the size of the party and the dates. We shortlist houses by beach, staff and distance to Galle.
Where we go
Villas between Galle and Tangalle on the south coast, with Galle fort for the shops and the restaurants, Yala or a smaller park for a day or two of safari, and the hill country or the cultural triangle for a second act if there is time.
How the week runs
Breakfast on the veranda, a swim, a day trip to the fort or a wildlife park, lunch at the villa, afternoons at the pool. A cook for most meals, a driver on call, a surf lesson or a whale-watching morning as the party wishes.
Who it suits and when
Families, groups of friends and multi-generational parties. December to March for the south coast; the east coast villas suit May to September.
