Tanzania: crater and plains
One morning in the crater, a week with the herds.

Tanzania · Family holidays
The crater, the plains and a private vehicle paced for children, with a beach finish if you want it.
Tanzania gives a family the two scenes children remember: the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater and the open Serengeti. The distances are larger than in Kenya, so we fly between them and keep the days in the car short.
Tell us the ages and the dates. The month decides where the herds are, and that decides the camps.
Two nights at the crater rim for a single full day on the floor, then four or five in the Serengeti in a camp placed for the season. Private houses and family tents with a shared living space keep everyone together. Zanzibar or a quieter island closes the trip with a beach and a pool.
Game drives are shorter and broken by a bush breakfast or a picnic; guides used to children bring the tracking, the stories and the patience. Afternoons are for the pool or the camp's children's programme. Flights between the crater, the plains and the coast replace long drives.
Families with children from about six; teenagers who want the drama of the migration. December to March for the calving season in the south; July to October for the river crossings in the north; June and November for quieter camps.
