A seven-night Seabourn Ovation cruise from Dover to the Norwegian fjords: Geiranger, Flåm and Bergen with no flying, on a small ship that suits grandparents travelling as a couple.

For clients who want scenery without heat or airports, this is the easy answer. Drive or take a car to Dover, board a ship of around 600 guests where the crew learn your name by the second day, and watch the fjords arrive at your veranda. June and July give light until midnight.

Seabourn's atmosphere is warm and grown-up. Children are permitted but there is nothing for them to do, so this is a trip for couples, grandparents on their own, and groups of friends.

Why we like it

  • No flight: embark in Dover
  • Small ship with a sociable, grown-up crowd
  • Geirangerfjord and the Seven Sisters from the deck
  • All-suite, all-veranda, largely inclusive
  • Summer light until midnight

The ship

Seabourn Ovation, in service since 2018, carries around 600 guests in all-veranda suites. The design is soft and understated, the dining is strong with a Thomas Keller-partnered grill, and the atmosphere is sociable without being forced. It is the kind of ship where a conversation at the bar turns into a dinner invitation.

Cabins we'd recommend

  • A Veranda suite midship on Deck 6 or 7
  • A Penthouse suite for a separate sitting area
  • Port side for the Geiranger approach on most itineraries, though the ship turns

What the fare includes with Seabourn

  • All-suite accommodation
  • Drinks and dining
  • Gratuities
  • Expedition activities on expedition ships

Everything else, flights, hotels before and after, transfers and private days ashore, we add around it. More on Seabourn →

Good to know

Questions, answered

Which side of the ship is best for the fjords?

Neither reliably: ships sail in and turn around, so both sides see the scenery. A midship veranda matters more than the side.
