The easiest great cruise there is: short flights, famous ports, and a ship for every kind of family.

School summer holidays
Six weeks, one window, the whole family. The ships that make a summer-holiday cruise feel like a holiday for the parents too.

Late July to early September
A luxury cruise in the summer holidays has to work for the children, or it does not work for anyone. That means a ship with a children's programme that runs daily, a pool deck that is not an afterthought, dining that is relaxed enough for a seven-year-old, and cabins that give the adults an evening.
It also has to work for the adults: good food, space, a spa, and the sense of being on a grown-up ship rather than a floating resort. Only a handful of luxury ships manage both. They are the ones we would start with.

Not manufactured urgency: these are the things that genuinely narrow your options the later we start.
Family-friendly luxury ships are few; their family cabins and connecting suites on summer-holiday sailings are planned the furthest ahead of any cruise we arrange.
Children's programmes on some lines run only on selected holiday sailings; we confirm which sailings before you commit.
Flights for a family of five or six in late July are among the hardest of the year to seat together on sensible departure times.
A week's shift to early September, where school terms allow, usually improves price, weather and crowds.
Where we'd look

The easiest great cruise there is: short flights, famous ports, and a ship for every kind of family.

Small ships, island overnights, and a late season that runs into October.

Venice, Dubrovnik and Kotor in a week, on ships small enough for the old harbours.

No long flight, dramatic scenery from your terrace, and a season made for grandparents.

Glaciers, whales and bears from a small ship, with a pre-cruise stop in Vancouver.
Connecting suites, different activity levels, dining that works for everyone, and transfers that suit grandparents and toddlers alike. The best family suites go first, so start early.
Cruise ideas
Planning figures per person, not quotes. Final price depends on sailing date, suite and availability.

Barcelona to Rome with connecting suites, a real kids' programme and nobody dressing for dinner.

A small French ship, a summer children's programme and harbours only yachts can use.

Athens round trip with excursions, drinks, speciality dining and flights in the fare.

Budapest to Passau on a dedicated family departure: castles, chocolate and no sea days.

Glaciers and whales with excursions included, plus Vancouver and the Rocky Mountaineer for a 14-night family journey.
Cruise lines
Honest ratings on every line page, including who each one isn't for.

Modern, relaxed, generous with space, and genuinely happy to see children.

The most inclusive fare at sea, on all-suite ships that take elegance seriously.

French small ships and a true polar icebreaker, with a children's programme in the summer holidays.

Food-led, country-club casual ships of around 670 to 1,200 guests at an accessible luxury price.
How it works
No obligation. No pressure. Just a conversation about what would work for your party.
Two to five minutes online, or a call. Who's travelling, roughly when, and what matters most.
A cruise specialist talks it through: the party, the occasion, the budget, and anything that worries you.
Not forty options. Two or three we'd actually recommend, with the reasons, and the ones we'd avoid for you.
Cruise, suites, flights, hotels before and after, transfers, excursions, dining and any celebration on board.
Nothing is booked until you're happy with the plan and the price.
Documents, confirmations, requests to the ship, and one person to call before and during the voyage.
Who is travelling?

Ships that genuinely welcome children, suites that connect, and a specialist who has checked the kids' club runs on your dates.

Grandparents, parents, teenagers and small children on one ship, with the suites, pacing and excursions planned around all of them.
Good to know
In our planning experience Explora Journeys and Regent Seven Seas are the strongest for families in the school holidays, with Ponant and Oceania suiting older children. Silversea and Seabourn are superb ships but better for families with teenagers or adult children.
Not always. A large suite with a separate bedroom works for younger children. For children over about ten, two connecting suites give everyone a better week. We send a cabin plan with every proposal.
Yes. We usually plan two tracks for a port day, one gentle and one energetic, meeting for lunch, with private guides where that makes it easier.
Other dates

The Mediterranean, the Greek Islands, the Fjords and Alaska — planned now, while the suites that suit a family are still open.

The month most families have to travel. Here is how we make it work, and the ships we would choose.

The one week a year everyone can get away. Spend it somewhere warm, with the cooking done by someone else.

A week of warm sea, quieter ports and lower prices than summer. One of the best weeks of the year to cruise with children.
Don't spend thirty hours comparing forty ships, cabins, dates, flights and hotels. Give us five minutes and we'll narrow it down to what is worth considering.
