Overview

Star Breeze is one of three former Seabourn ships Windstar cut in half and lengthened between 2019 and 2021, adding 50 suites, two restaurants and a new pool deck. She carries around 312 guests in suites of around 26 square meters.

Star Breeze began life as Seabourn Spirit in 1989 and has been with Windstar since 2015. The 2020 stretch added a 25-meter midsection with new suites, Cuadro 44 restaurant, a larger spa and an infinity pool, so she feels like a newer ship inside than her year suggests.

She is the Windstar ship we propose to travelers who want a suite with a separate sitting area and a proper bathroom at an upper-premium fare. Balconies are few, so we book early for the ones that exist.

On board

Suites, cabins, dining and evenings on Star Breeze

In our words, from the questions we are asked most. Suite names are the line's; which one we would book is ours.

Suites
Ocean View Suites of around 26 square meters with a sitting area, walk-in closet and a bathroom with a tub; Balcony Suites and a few Classic and Owner's Suites with more room.
Cabins we would book
For a couple we would book a Balcony Suite from the 2020 midsection; for the money, an Ocean View Suite midships on deck 5 is the value pick.
Dining
Amphora main restaurant, Cuadro 44 by Anthony Sasso (Spanish, the best room on board), Candles on deck by reservation, and the Veranda for casual meals. Star Grill serves lunch by the pool.
Entertainment
Live music in the Compass Rose lounge, a small casino, the water sports platform in warm ports, and an open bridge; no theater.

Children, grandparents, mobility

Star Breeze for the whole family

Three honest notes: what the ship does for children, what it does for grandparents, and what it asks of anyone with limited mobility.

Children
No children's program or facilities. Children are permitted and the water platform entertains teenagers; we do not propose her for younger children.
Grandparents
Easier than the sailing ships: elevators serve the guest decks, suites have tubs and sitting areas, and the pace is gentle. Tender ports remain the main physical demand.
Accessibility
A small number of accessible suites were added in the stretch and public decks are largely step-free; tenders are the limit. We confirm the specific suite with Windstar before proposing it.

Planning for the whole family?

Connecting suites, different activity levels, dining that works for everyone, and transfers that suit grandparents and toddlers alike. The best family suites go first, so start early.

Our promise

We will say no.

We do not recommend a cruise because it is expensive, and we do not put people on the wrong ship. If Star Breeze is not right for your party, we will tell you and suggest the one that is, even if it costs less or is sold by someone else. We are an advisor, not a booking engine.

Star Breeze FAQs

Is Star Breeze the same ship as Seabourn Spirit?

Same hull, lengthened and rebuilt in 2020. The suites, restaurants and pool deck are substantially new; the ship's age shows mostly in her outside profile.
