AdviceWhat we would do in your position

Ask Blackbury Travel

Is Regent worth the money?

Yes, if you value knowing the total before you go: the fare includes flights, excursions, drinks, tips and specialty dining. No, if children under ten are coming or you would rather pick and pay for excursions yourself.

Our answer

In our words.

Regent's fare looks high next to lines that quote a cruise-only price, so compare totals, not headlines. Once you add business-class flights, a shore excursion in every port, drinks, gratuities and a night in a hotel before the ship, most luxury lines land close to Regent's number. Regent simply puts it all on one invoice.

The ships are all-suite, the newest two are very good, and the service is polished without being stiff. Grandparents hosting adult children, couples who want nothing to arrange and anyone who dislikes being sold things on board tend to love it.

Where it is not worth it: parties with young children, because there is no children's program worth the name; travelers who prefer small private tours over the included group excursions; and anyone happy in a lower cabin category on a cheaper line. In those cases we will say so and suggest Explora, Silversea or Oceania instead.

Our promise

We will say no.

We do not recommend a cruise because it is expensive, and we do not put people on the wrong ship. If the ship you have in mind is not right for your party, we will tell you and suggest the one that is, even if it costs less or is sold by someone else. We are an advisor, not a booking engine.
