Explora I leaving the port of Rhodes on a clear summer afternoon

AdviceWhat we would do in your position

Ask Blackbury Travel

What ship should we choose for a 70th birthday?

If the family is coming, Explora I or II with an Ocean Residence for the birthday couple and connecting suites alongside. If it is the two of you, Silver Nova or Seabourn Ovation, with a private dinner booked for the night.

Our answer

In our words.

A seventieth with the whole family is a three-generation trip, so the ship has to work for grandchildren as well as the guest of honor. Explora is the line we would book: an Ocean Residence gives the birthday couple a living room and a terrace big enough for the family to gather, with connecting Ocean Terrace suites next door. The Western Mediterranean in June or the Caribbean in December are the itineraries we would choose.

If the celebration is for two, pick comfort and a sense of occasion over size. Silver Nova's butler service and restaurants make every evening feel like the dinner, and Seabourn Ovation's warmth suits a quieter party. We can arrange a private dinner on board, flowers in the suite and a car and guide ashore on the day itself.

Whichever ship, book ten to twelve months ahead for a specific date, and tell us the date is fixed; it changes how we plan the flights and the hotel night before.

Our promise

We will say no.

We do not recommend a cruise because it is expensive, and we do not put people on the wrong ship. If the ship you have in mind is not right for your party, we will tell you and suggest the one that is, even if it costs less or is sold by someone else. We are an advisor, not a booking engine.
