Overview

Seven Seas Mariner entered service in 2001, was comprehensively refurbished and carries around 700 guests in all-suite, all-balcony accommodation. It sails the longer, farther itineraries and Alaska in summer.

Mariner is smaller and older than the Explorer class but shares the fare, the service and most of the restaurants. The refurbishment brought the suites up to the standard of its sisters; the public rooms are more intimate.

It is the ship Regent uses for Alaska, long South America and Pacific voyages and world segments, which makes it the one to consider for a grandparent couple with time.

The fare

The Regent Seven Seas Cruises sailings we would shortlist run from about $7,200 to $7,700 per person for 7 nights, depending on ship, suite, season and itinerary.

What that includes

All-suite accommodation; Shore excursions in every port; Drinks and specialty dining; Gratuities and Wi-Fi; Flights and pre-cruise hotel on many fares. Anything not on that list, we price alongside the fare so there is no surprise on board.

Around the ship

Flights, hotel nights before and after, private transfers and any excursions outside the fare sit on top. Your proposal sets out the cruise fare and additional costs so you can compare the full trip.

Suites, cabins, dining and evenings on Seven Seas Mariner

In our words, from the questions we are asked most. Suite names are the line's; which one we would book is ours.

Suites
Deluxe Veranda to Penthouse, then Mariner and Master Suites. Smaller than the Explorer class but refurbished and well laid out.
Cabins we would book
A Penthouse suite midship for most couples; avoid the lowest deck forward on routes with long open-sea passages.
Dining
Compass Rose, Prime 7, Chartreuse and the pool grill; fewer venues than its sisters but all included.
Entertainment
A theater with smaller productions, lounges with live music, lectures on sea days, a small casino.

Children, grandparents, mobility

Seven Seas Mariner for the whole family

Three honest notes: what the ship does for children, what it does for grandparents, and what it asks of anyone with limited mobility.

Children
No children's club and nothing laid on for them; not a ship we suggest for children.
Grandparents
Comfortable, inclusive and unhurried; a good choice for a long itinerary where the ship is home for three weeks.
Accessibility
Accessible suites exist in a few categories; several Alaska and South America ports use tenders. We check each itinerary.

Planning for the whole family?

Connecting suites, different activity levels, dining that works for everyone, and transfers that suit grandparents and toddlers alike. The best family suites go first, so start early.

Our promise

We will say no.

We do not recommend a cruise because it is expensive, and we do not put people on the wrong ship. If Seven Seas Mariner is not right for your party, we will tell you and suggest the one that is, even if it costs less or is sold by someone else. We are an advisor, not a booking engine.

Seven Seas Mariner FAQs

Is Mariner worth it next to Grandeur?

For Alaska and long voyages, yes: Grandeur does not sail them. For a Mediterranean week, Grandeur is the better ship and we would say so.
