Overview

Seven Seas Explorer entered service in 2016 and set the template Splendor and Grandeur followed: around 750 guests, all-suite, all-balcony, a very high space ratio and Regent's fully inclusive fare.

Explorer was built to be lavish and is: a lot of marble and gilt, a two-deck theater, the same specialty restaurants as its sisters and the Regent Suite, which has its own spa. The interiors are richer than Grandeur's, which some guests prefer.

It is a well-run ship with an established crew and often carries the longer itineraries. For grandparents who like a traditional sense of luxury it is often the better fit of the three.

Price

What Seven Seas Explorer costs

Inclusive upper luxury, in line with its sisters; older ships sometimes carry a slightly lower fare for the same itinerary. Planning figures on each sailing page.

The fare

The Seven Seas Explorer sailings we would shortlist run from about $7,200 per person for 7 nights, depending on ship, suite, season and itinerary.

What that includes

All-suite accommodation; Shore excursions in every port; Drinks and specialty dining; Gratuities and Wi-Fi; Flights and pre-cruise hotel on many fares. Anything not on that list, we price alongside the fare so there is no surprise on board.

Around the ship

Flights, hotel nights before and after, private transfers and any excursions outside the fare sit on top. Your proposal sets out the cruise fare and additional costs so you can compare the full trip.

On board

Suites, cabins, dining and evenings on Seven Seas Explorer

In our words, from the questions we are asked most. Suite names are the line's; which one we would book is ours.

Suites
Deluxe Veranda to Penthouse, then the Explorer Suites and the Regent Suite. Every suite has a balcony and generous storage.
Cabins we would book
Concierge or Penthouse midship on Deck 9 or 10; avoid the suites nearest the theater if sensitive to noise late in the evening.
Dining
Compass Rose, Prime 7, Chartreuse, Pacific Rim and the pool grill, all included.
Entertainment
Production shows in a two-deck theater, live music in the lounges, lectures on sea days, a casino. Traditional cruise rhythm.

Children, grandparents, mobility

Seven Seas Explorer for the whole family

Three honest notes: what the ship does for children, what it does for grandparents, and what it asks of anyone with limited mobility.

Children
No permanent club; teenagers fine, young children better elsewhere.
Grandparents
Richer interiors, a more traditional feel and the same inclusive ease. A good ship for a couple in their seventies who have cruised before and know what they like.
Accessibility
Accessible suites in several categories; we hold them early. Some ports are by tender, which we flag in every proposal.

Planning for the whole family?

Connecting suites, different activity levels, dining that works for everyone, and transfers that suit grandparents and toddlers alike. The best family suites go first, so start early.

Our promise

We will say no.

We do not recommend a cruise because it is expensive, and we do not put people on the wrong ship. If Seven Seas Explorer is not right for your party, we will tell you and suggest the one that is, even if it costs less or is sold by someone else. We are an advisor, not a booking engine.

Seven Seas Explorer FAQs

Is Explorer dated?

No. It was built in 2016 to a very high standard and is kept well. The interiors are more ornate than Grandeur's, which is a matter of taste rather than age.
